Sound Doctrine Advancing in Zambia
Wilbroad Chanda is the pastor of Christ Community Church in Ndola, Zambia, a Sovereign Grace church, planted around 2009.
For over a year now, Wilbroad has been providing theological training to men who are aspiring to be pastors or church planters, as well as some who are already functioning in those roles but with little training. What began as an effort to invest into several young men in his church quickly grew into a monthly program that now serves 22 “regular” students. Through evening and weekend classes for about two years, these men will go through the essence of the Sovereign Grace Pastors College material.
Two weeks ago, Wilbroad taught a class on Ecclesiology and opened it up, as he occasionally does, to others who might be interested in learning alongside the 22 students. In God’s abundant kindness, 70 people attended from the surrounding area to learn about the theology of the church. What a testament to the great hunger in Zambia for sound doctrinal teaching! We are thankful to God for the way Wilbroad is utilizing his passions and gifts to equip those in his community who are so eager to be trained.
The Sovereign Grace churches in the Northeast Region have come alongside Wilbroad to help in his pastoral training efforts. Although there is still a financial need, support from these churches within their regional budget has represented a huge leap forward in defraying monthly costs. Also, we are coordinating efforts to send guest lecturers to Zambia 2-3 times per year for an intensive week of training. The formalization of the “Zambian PC” (as we affectionately call it) is still in process, but days like this are encouraging evidence of the momentum God is building!
Please pray that these efforts would have an impact on churches in Africa for the glory of God and the advancement of His gospel!
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:19-20, ESV).
